Crop growing guide

Carrot

Daucus carota subsp. sativus

A cool root vegetable requiring fine stone-free soil, uniform emergence, and restrained nitrogen for straight sweet roots.

Carrot root shape is determined early by soil texture, spacing, and moisture. Loose beds and balanced potassium support enlargement, while fresh manure and compaction cause branching.

For practical cultivation, Carrot needs its light, water, root-zone aeration, and nutrition managed as one system. The guidance below organizes those needs by growth stage; final field or container rates should follow the product label, plant size, local conditions, and soil or media analysis.

Ideal growing conditions

Light
Full sun for strong tops and well-formed roots.
Climate
Mild conditions; excessive heat can reduce root shape, color, or texture.
Water
Even moisture from germination through root enlargement, with no prolonged saturation.
Soil
Deep, stone-free, loose sandy loam that lets roots expand without forking.
Soil pH
5.8–7.0

Nutrition by growth stage

1

Establishment

Emergence through early rooting

Uniform stand, fine roots, modest fertility

Help Carrot establish uniformly in loose soil. Avoid fresh concentrated fertilizer in direct contact with young roots.

2

Canopy development

Early leaf and stem expansion

Balanced top growth, root exploration

Build enough Carrot leaf area to power storage growth, but do not overuse nitrogen and delay root or tuber formation.

3

Root or tuber bulking

From storage initiation through enlargement

Potassium, phosphorus, even moisture

Shift Carrot toward balanced phosphorus and potassium while keeping soil loose and evenly moist.

4

Maturation

Final weeks before harvest

Skin set, dry matter, harvest quality

Avoid late nitrogen and excess water as Carrot matures; both can reduce dry matter and storage quality.

Alitura fertilizer program

Match each product to the crop stage and root zone. Final rates should follow the product label, soil condition, and local agronomic advice.

Recommended for

Root or tuber bulking · Maturation

Asparagus Special Mix organic nutrition can support Carrot when its use follows crop stage, soil condition, and the product label.

Best timing

Introduce during active growth and the higher-demand stages listed above; avoid a large corrective dose close to harvest or dormancy.

How to apply for this crop

Apply to moist soil around the active Carrot root zone, keep material away from stems or crowns, water in, and adjust the amount to plant size and field or container conditions.

General product guidance

Apply around the active root zone or mix into the planting media according to the package label, then water lightly. Adjust the amount to plant size, soil condition, and crop stage.

Alitura's Reserve

Most Balanced NPK 5-5-5 Organic Nutritional Fertilizer

From IDR 28.000 / Kg(Packaging 20Kg)

Recommended for

Establishment · Canopy development

balanced soil-building organic nutrition provides a defensible foundation for Carrot without replacing soil or leaf analysis.

Best timing

Use during soil preparation, establishment, or recovery, then reassess before the next growth stage.

How to apply for this crop

Spread evenly through the cultivated root zone or media, mix lightly where appropriate, and never pile fertilizer against Carrot.

General product guidance

Use Alitura's Reserve as a base feed at planting and as a top-up through the growing season. As a general guide, work a small handful into the soil around each plant or mix it into potting media before planting, then reapply every 4 to 6 weeks during active growth. For garden beds, broadcast evenly over the soil surface and lightly incorporate, then water in well. Powder works best mixed into soil or media. Always water after applying and adjust the amount to plant size and soil condition.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using compacted or stony soil that deforms roots and tubers.
  • Continuing heavy nitrogen after storage growth should begin.
  • Keeping the root zone saturated near maturity and reducing storage quality.
  • Do not place fresh manure or concentrated fertilizer in the root path before sowing.
