Crop growing guide

Peace Lily

Spathiphyllum wallisii

A shade-tolerant aroid with white spathes, responsive to moisture but vulnerable to saturated or salty media.

Peace lily wilts visibly when dry but still requires drainage. Bright indirect light supports more flowers than deep shade, while light feeding protects roots.

For practical cultivation, Peace Lily needs its light, water, root-zone aeration, and nutrition managed as one system. The guidance below organizes those needs by growth stage; final field or container rates should follow the product label, plant size, local conditions, and soil or media analysis.

Ideal growing conditions

Light
Bright indirect light; avoid prolonged harsh midday sun on leaves.
Climate
Warm, stable temperatures with moderate to high humidity and airflow.
Water
Water thoroughly, then allow the upper media to drain and partially dry according to the species.
Soil
Chunky, porous, organic media that balances moisture retention with root oxygen.
Soil pH
5.5–6.5

Nutrition by growth stage

1

Establishment

Planting through new-root growth

Roots, media structure, gentle nutrition

Let Peace Lily root into an airy medium before increasing nutrition. Keep fertilizer away from damaged or newly cut roots.

2

Vegetative growth

Leaf, stem, and branch formation

Balanced foliage, branching, sturdy tissue

Use measured nutrition to build a sturdy Peace Lily frame rather than soft foliage that attracts pests.

3

Bud initiation

Before visible buds through bud enlargement

Phosphorus, potassium, light, stable water

Keep Peace Lily light and moisture stable while buds form, and avoid a sudden nitrogen-heavy feed.

4

Flowering and repeat bloom

Open flowers through grooming or cutting back

Flower quality, potassium, recovery

Support Peace Lily bloom with even moisture and modest repeat feeding, then remove spent flowers where appropriate.

Alitura fertilizer program

Match each product to the crop stage and root zone. Final rates should follow the product label, soil condition, and local agronomic advice.

Establishment · Vegetative growth

balanced soil-building organic nutrition provides a defensible foundation for Peace Lily without replacing soil or leaf analysis.

Best timing

Use during soil preparation, establishment, or recovery, then reassess before the next growth stage.

How to apply for this crop

Spread evenly through the cultivated root zone or media, mix lightly where appropriate, and never pile fertilizer against Peace Lily.

General product guidance

Use Alitura's Reserve as a base feed at planting and as a top-up through the growing season. As a general guide, work a small handful into the soil around each plant or mix it into potting media before planting, then reapply every 4 to 6 weeks during active growth. For garden beds, broadcast evenly over the soil surface and lightly incorporate, then water in well. Powder works best mixed into soil or media. Always water after applying and adjust the amount to plant size and soil condition.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using high nitrogen continuously and delaying or weakening bloom.
  • Fertilizing dry roots or freshly repotted plants too strongly.
  • Ignoring light and airflow while trying to solve every problem with fertilizer.
  • Do not respond to every wilt by leaving the pot permanently wet.
